Who is the best rapper alive? The answer to this question has been debated everywhere from the street corner to MTV. In hopes of settling the debate once and for all, Vibe Magazine is hosting the first ever Best Rapper Alive Tournament. According to reports, Vibe will poll 64 of the game’s “best” artists to see who is good enough to claim the title. Some MCs included in the poll include Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Joe Budden, Pusha T, Trina, Lil Boosie, Eminem, Bun B, and Ludacris, says Hiphopdx.com. “The first round of voting begins July 21. Each round lasts one week followed by our version of The Final Four,” said Vibe. Fans will have the chance to pick and choose their favorites and offer their predictions on who will win. The question now becomes: Who will you vote for? Lil Wayne – The best Rapper alive?“I aint kinda hot/I’m sauna.” New Orleans native Lil Wayne is the self-professed best rapper alive. One cannot deny the animalistic lyrical prowess best exhibited in his latest release “Tha Carter III.” “Memba when ya p*ssy second husband tried to beat ya/memba when I went into the kitchen got the cleaver/he ain’t give a f*ck, I aint give a f*ck neither,” Wayne raps over a minimalist Kanye West beat on the song “Playing With Fire.” In considering Wayne for the coveted #1 spot, one also has to consider some of his drug-induced ramblings on tracks like “I Feel Like Dying” release prior to “Tha Carter III.” Considering his ups and (very few) downs, is Wayne ready for the best rapper alive crown? Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt?“I think I might wife her/you know powder blue Rocawear suit, white Nika.” One of the most recycled lines in the game is from New York’s reigning champ Jay-Z. jay has become an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. From clothing lines to nightclubs, his contribution to the game is unprecedented. But is that enough to take the crown? Nas – Illmatic to Untitled“Drink Moet with Medusa, give her shot guns in hell/From the split that I lift and inhale, it ain’t hard to tell.” Nas’ debut album “Illmatic” is widely acknowledged as a classic by ip-hop heads around the world. Although his fans have remained somewhat supportive, there has been talk of the MC not being able create an album that can match “Illmatic’s” status in the game. His latest effort, the much-criticized “Untitled,” has been labeled by many as the return of the Queens Bridge king. But is that enough for him to be labeled as the best rapper alive?
