Halloween is right around the corner. Whether your kid is a prissy princess or has a thing for blood and guts, see this list of the best costumes around.

The weather is starting to break and soon the leaves will begin to fall from the trees. With the autumn colors making an appearance for the first time since… well last year, kids all over the country are anxiously awaiting their favorite holiday Halloween. From pumpkins to vampires, a child’s Halloween costume is only limited by their imagination. But some need that extra push for inspiration. Whether looking for an old favorite or a new idea, check out this list of this year’s most popular Halloween costumes.

Harry Potter

Last year, this spectacled wizard stole the show. Parents can either head to the local Halloween store to pick up this popular get up or head to their junk drawer for a pair of dad’s old glasses and a cape. Harry’s trademark lightning bolt “birthmark” can be made using eyeliner or face paint.

Old Person

One of the more unique ideas found, dressing up like an old person is inexpensive and fun. Parents can head to thrift store for clothes and accessories. Gray hair spray and face paint can be purchased for a couple of dollars at a Halloween or arts and crafts store. For more fun, roll up a sock or T-shirt for a hump on the little one’s back.

Jellyfish

This costume is one of the easiest to make on the list. It is as simple as buying a grey sweat suit, large piece of foam, foam backer rods, and shiny grey fabric. Scoop a hole in the foam large enough for a child’s head and cover it in the shiny gray material. Hang the foam backer rods (a.k.a. tentacles) from it and viola! Jellyfish!

Ironman & Batman

Studio executives knew exactly what they were doing with the release of these two summer blockbusters this year. Kids always love a superhero and this time around is no different. Although these outfits can be made at home, parents going this route may find it easier to just plop down the $30 (estimate) for the real deal.

Jason From Friday The 13th

Some children are more into gore than others. If your child has a thing for macabre murderers then a Jason costume may be right up his alley. With a combination of store bought products (fake blood, machete, hockey mask) and things around the house, this costume is sure to spread the chills and thrills.

Cheerleader

So “original” wouldn’t be the best word to describe this costume but it still remains a favorite among both little and big girls. Pig tails, pom poms, and a pleated skirt can complete this look. But those looking to go all out to show their school spirit can opt for a whole store bought get up.

Zombie

George A. Romero taught the world what a zombie really is. Pay tribute to this master of horror with a rendition of the walking dead. The gray makeup and blood can be bought from the store but bring on the fun by finding inspiration around the house.

Pirate

Another all time favorite, the pirate costume enjoyed a resurgence after the release of Pirates Of The Caribbean. From eye patches to hooks and scarves, the possibilities with the popular costume are limitless.

Whether your child is into the gore of the scariest horror movie characters or a pretty little princess, everything you need for this year's Halloween costumes can be found. There is no reason to break the bank with these choices. And if all else fails, leave it up to their imaginations.
