It is the subject of hip-hop rumors, gossip, and blogs all over the Internet. Gay men "hiding" in hip hop. But is there really any truth to the myth?

With misogynistic lyrics, crotch grabbing, and booty slapping abounding, it is hard for fans to believe that their favorite rapper could be gay. But since the beginnings of shows like “The Wendy Williams Experience,” rumors have been making their way around town about the possibility of some of the industry’s biggest names engaging in same sex activities.

Terrance Dean’s Hiding in Hip Hop

Earlier this year Terrance Dean released his tell all book, “Hiding in Hip Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry – from Music to Hollywood.” (Atria, ISBN: 1416553398) In his 320-page expose, Dean chooses not to name names but does call out entertainers who are “living a double life” and reveals what really goes on behind closed doors at so-called “down low” parties.

“I describe in my book, Hiding in Hip-Hop, that there were instances where I was invited to down low parties and I talk about getting the invitation to these exclusive ‘invite only’ parties where men and women are with the same sex,” Dean said. “Once you are a part of this exclusive membership you know there are certain things you cannot say, you cannot divulge.”

According to Dean, the entertainment industry is full of gay men pretending to be straight. In a recent interview with SOHH’s Danica Dow, he even admitted to being with some of these married and attached men.

“The very men who they think aren’t doing anything is the very man that is hiding in hip-hop,” Dean said.

Despite Dean’s experiences in the underground world of homosexuals in entertainment, he says that it is about more than just sex.

“I don’t want to make it seem like there’s this pervasive community that where people are sexual predators and it’s just a big gay party,” he said. “But there is a sub culture.”

Nelly, Yung Berg, & David Banner Respond To Gay Book

If the names of the members of the alleged “club” Dean writes about were revealed it could spell the end of the entertainer’s career, marriage and family. With so much on the line, it is easy to understand how the issue can be a touchy subject for even those people who aren’t involved.

In a recent video post blog,SOHH sat down with Nelly, David Banner, and Yung Berg to get their take on Dean’s book and the whole “gay phenomenon.”

“You could f*ck up a man happy home,” said Yung Berg. “It might be the dude who wear his boxers on backwards every damn day dats getting hit in the ss… homo damn dude u talk about in the book but he probably still got a wife and kids and you might f*ck up his life.”

David Banner had a more aggressive take on the issue—prefacing his comments with a disclaimer: “I ain't gay.”

“People are snitches,” Banner continued. “Everybody snitch. Mind your own f*cking business. Write a book about you.”

Nelly offered a more metaphoric approach to the issue, likening the “down low” phenomenon to playing sports and locker rooms.

“Like I played sports a lot, you know, so I’m like ‘what goes on in the locker room stays in the locker room,’” the St. Lunatic said. “It’s like a guy’s sanctuary. You may say some sh*t in here you don’t never want to get out there.”

The question now becomes: If one were to think of all the gay people they’ve known and then think of all of the people in the entertainment industry wouldn’t it be statistically feasible for some of the people in the entertainment industry to be gay too?
