Who is Timbaland
Timothy Mosley AKA Timbaland has helped direct the careers of many of today’s most influential Hip-Hop and R&B acts. Born in Virginia on March 10th 1971, the acclaimed producer who has amassed eleven awards during his career has once again been recognized by another platform for his continued contribution to music.
Background to the Philosphical Society
In October Timbaland will be welcomed into the prestigious Philosophical Society, an exclusive community of Trinity College, Dublin. The Phil as it is more commonly known is a ‘student paper-reading and debating society.’ It was founded in 1843 and boasts members such as Oscar Wilde, Bono of U2 and Mary Robinson, the seventh president of Ireland.
Timbaland is being inducted to The Phil as an Honorary Patron, a title that is given to politicians, scholars and writers who then share their knowledge with the students of the Dublin College. He will be the first Hip-Hop entertainer ever to be chosen to receive such an award.
Why is Timbaland being Recognized
"Timbaland is a remarkable individual whose contribution to music is simply astonishing," said Philosophical Society president Barry Devlin. "He is the most sought after producer on the planet, and why wouldn't he be. He has produced an impossibly large number of hits. It is a real honor for us to host such an accomplished musician."
The Norfolk, Virgina native has produced music for artists such as Jay Z, Missy Elliot, Destiny’s Child, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado as well as Madonna, Coldplay and Mary J Blige. His illustrious career spans 15 years after he started DJing using the moniker DJ Timmy Tim. From there he went on to start producing tracks with friends Missy Elliot and Magoo.

Now with a continued recognition for his tremendous work and creativity Timbaland is currently working on his third solo project Shock value II which is expected to be released in November of 2008. Its predecessor Shock Value introduced the public to the various artists on Timbaland’s own label Mosley Music Group, Keri Hilson and D.O.E. The label founded in 2006 is part of the Universal Music Group.
