New Ludacris Album, Theater of the MindFeatures Single 'What Them Girls Like,' Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, Nas, T.I.
Ludacris presents his album as a stage show, with hits "One More Drink" featuring T-Pain, "Wish You Would" featuring T.I., and "What Them Girls Like" with Chris Brown.
With his seventh studio album, Theater of the Mind, Ludacris has toned down his raps, sharpened his pen and amplified his attitude. A lyrically determined Ludacris emerges as he attempts to outshine rap’s hardest hitters, sharing tracks with Jay-Z, T-Pain, Lil’ Wayne, T.I., Nas, Common, and The Game. Ludacris’s November 2008 stage show attempted to compete with Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreaks, released on the same day. The album features street singles "Wish You Would," featuring T.I. and "One More Drink." “Last of a Dying Breed” featuring Lil’ Wayne Ludacris is now taking his role seriously as one of today’s longest-lasting acts in a genre he’s contributed to for nine years. He takes two tracks on Theater of the Mind to emphasize his role in the game. With two verses of hard hitting lyrics against Wyldfyer production, Ludacris teams up with Lil’ Wayne on “Last of a Dying Breed.” He declares: “I’m a lyricist to the death / I got what you need / The last of a dying breed / And we almost extinct / So I’m saying it loud / Emcee means move the crowd.” "I Do It For Hip Hop" featuring Jay-Z, NasContinuing to offer fans a serious appraisal of the state of hip hop and his role in it, Ludacris teams with three of the game’s longest-lasting and most respected lyricists. He teams with Jay-Z and Nas on “I Do it For Hip Hop,” and with Common on “Do the Right Thing.” Raps Luda: “I don’t do it for the money / I do it from the heart / I do it with the beat box / I did it from the start.” “What Them Girls Like” featuring Chris BrownIn addition to a more rap-oriented Ludacris on Theater of the Mind, the rapper brings the kind of club-movers that he has been known for throughout his career. With production from Trackmasters and a hook featuring T-Pain, “One More Drink” offers a beer-goggled look at a night on the town. Additional production from DJ Premiere, 9th Wonder, Scott Storch, and Swizz Beats keep the club anthems and love makers prevalent on Theater of the Mind. And “What Them Girls Like” provides the kind of hand-clapping, chorus call-and-response that Ludacris fans have come to expect. Raps Luda: “You should grab yourself a seat and a Whiskey double / ‘Cause the girls of the world ain’t nothin’ but trouble.” Theater of the Mind tracklist
