Hip-hop media pioneer Ed Lover has linked up with Uneek, formerly of Bounce Squad, to create FEM (Females Earning Money).

In recent years, the female MC (or femcee) has virtually disappeared from the hip-hop industry. (See Women and Hip-Hop: An Unrequited Love?) What happened to her? There have been some commendable attempts at reclaiming the femcee thrown, (Think of Shawna from DTP and most recently the VH1 show Ms. Rap Supreme - Shout out to Ms. Reece Steele!) but no one has been able to tackle the issues that apparently come with being a female rapper.

But wait ... look up in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane, no it is the return of the female MC. Hopefully, she can swoop down on the rest of these subpar rappers and save the game in the name of those who actually have talent.

Babs Bunny + Lady Luck + Amil + Lady of Rage = Supergroup

Hip-hop's saviors (maybe, hopefully,) come in the form of four marginally successful female rappers, bought together to form a supergroup. Comprised of Babs Bunny, Lady of Rage, Lady Luck, and Amil, the group aims to show the game’s female MCs can unite.

“This is the perfect time to do a project like this,” said Ed Lover. “A lot of people have been wondering what happened to the female emcees, well these ladies are about to prove that they are here and they are better than ever! The FEM Movement is great for the future of hip-hop!”

Former femcee, Uneek, who currently serves as Babs’ and Lady Luck’s manager said that she jumped on board to dismiss the popular opinion that female MCs are catty and cannot work together.

“Females don’t come together enough and we need to show unity and cohesiveness. Men do it all the time and now it’s our time to stand up, stand together and make some money,” said Uneek. “FEM gives these talented women an opportunity to come together as a movement to show the power that we have when we work as a team, while still allowing each member to maintain their solo emcee status.”

From "Making the Band" To Making It With in the Game

Lady Luck and Babs Bunny, former member of Da Band, both expressed their excitement over the historic project.

“Women seem to have a hard time working together, but we are about to change that and make history,” said Lady Luck.

“I’m excited about the project. Each one of us brings sometign great and different to the table and I’m ready to go in!,” said Babs. “We are all very talented and we have all worked with major artists in the industry, Rage with Dr. Dre and Snoop and Amil with Jay-Z with Def Jam and EPMD and myself with Diddy. None of us are amateurs, but at the same time we all still have something to prove.”

According to reports, the women are currently in the studio working on a mixtape with DJ Doo Wop, which is rumored to feature Rah Digga. There is also talk of a tour and an album.

The question now becomes: Who will be buying the ladies' album?

I just really hope that they don't try to act or sound like men. I believe that to be the problem. Female rappers are either slutty whore-like hoodrats who talk about selling her ass to the highest bidder or butchy dike chicks that brag about shooting people and sticking up guys with their boyfriends. Female rappers get a bad rap for their "bad raps" and they should. Step you're game up
