It has been such a long time since Dr. Dre announced he was working on his album "Detox," that it's release has become the stuff of urban legends.
For the past few years, Dre has hinted at the album’s release but the album still avoids record store shelves like the plague. Yet and still, fan’s appetites remained moistened at the thought of it.
In a recent interview with USA Today, however, the West Coast beat maker put the speculation to rest and told fans they can expect the album in “November or December.”
“I’m just now – over the last couple of months – starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” Dre told the interviewer. “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”
Dre expressed his preference for quality over quantity in light of the industry changing success of “The Chronic” and “2001.”
“I’ve never set out to do that,” Dre said. “I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don’t put it out until I’m totally happy with it. Then it does what it does.”
Snoop Dogg on “Detox”
Iconic West Coast rapper and long time Dr. Dre collaborator Snoop Dogg recently weighed in on the release of “Detox,” saying the album is on par to achieve “classic” status.
“I see what he got them waiting for, it’s on and poppin,’ Snoop said. "He got records, he got heat.”
“That record is real it’s coming. You know me, I was starting to doubt it myself and then I went up in there and he plays so much music for me, it knocked my head off.”
50 Cent on “Detox”
In a recent interview with MTV, G-Unit frontman 50 Cent revealed his contribution to the highly anticipated LP.
“I recorded material with Dr. Dre for the Detox,” 50 told MTV News in New York. “It’s great I want it back. I want the records back.”
Although 50 says he was just joking, he said that he would love to get his hands on some of the material Dre has laying around.
“He has the music. It’s right there in the computer,” 50 revealed. “I stop by [his studio] every time and get something that adds something significant to my project each time [I’m about to put a record out]. And I spend three or four days there. To me, he’s the best producer in the game.”
So with “Detox” release date confirmed and artists praising it’s quality, the question now becomes: In today’s changing ever evolving music industry, will “Detox” be able to prove it’s relevance?
