Music Invades The DNC

Thought political events doesn't usually inspire images of your favorite rapper. That could change soon as some of the game's biggest names are set to perform at the DNC.

“I’m old school, so generally, generally, I’m more of a jazz guy, a Miles Davis, a John Coltrane guy… But having said that, I’m current enough that on my iPod I’ve got a little bit of Jay-Z. I’ve got a little Beyonce,” Barack Obama told VIBE contributor and blogger Jeff Chang during an interview for a cover story for the magazine’s September 2007 issue.

“George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People!”

Not only did Kanye West’s words during a live Hurricane Katrina benefit on NBC in leave Mike Meyers speechless, it left the world pondering what would happen next. Well, the secret service didn’t knock on Ye’s door, shoot him with a tranquilizer dart and cart him off into the night, so all was well.

In all honesty, from looking at the events that followed the horrible tragedy, it seems the rapper was merely stating what no one else had the balls to say at the time. Ye will finally get the chance to back up his beliefs by supporting Obama at this year’s convention.

N.E.R.D – Seeing Sounds…and Politics

Just to make it right now/f*ck what the government says/gotta save some lives now/is that ok.”

On their most recent CD, “Seeing Sounds,” N.E.R.D front man Pharrell speaks of the world’s need for a “Love Bomb.” Their messages of hope and peace seem to blend well with Obama’s message of similar goals. Hopefully, they will perform their next single “Spaz.” It would be amusing to see our next president (hopefully) trying to rock out to their “everything fusion” music.

“If I Was President…”

If I was president, I’d get elected on Friday/assassinated on Saturday/buried on Sunday/they go back to work on Monday/if I was president.

Hopefully, singer/songwriter/producer Wyclef Jean will be able to share some of the things he would do if he were president with Obama. The Hatian born artist rounds out the list of artist to perform, but will surely dazzle the crowd with his raspy thought provoking lyrics.

Stars at the Democratic National Convention

According to reports, R&B crooner Usher is also set to appear at this year’s convention. His performance has yet to be confirmed though because he is still “in negotiations” with the event’s organizers. Even if the even turns out to be sans Usher, the other stars in attendance will ensure the event is not dull.

Hollywood A-listers Scarlett Johanson, Forrest Whittaker, and Ben Affleck are amongst the other stars said to be present at this year’s convention.

Democratic National Convention Colorado

This year’s convention, to be held in Denver, Colorado, will kick off on August 25. Check out the website for more details and a running countdown.

The question now becomes: Don’t you think this will be the highest rated DNC in history?
